This memorial is erected on honour of the Winchcombe Men who gave their lives for their country in the South African War

Private 3895 Charles HASLAM. 2nd Gloucestershire Regiment killed at Nicholsons Nek, 27th October 1900 (UK, Casualties of the Boer War, 1899-1902) have 1st Gloucestershire Regt, casualty place, Farquars Farm.

Trooper 1886 William HUMPHRIES. 1st Life Guards killed at Kimberley on the 11th April 1900

Private 389 Charles KNIGHT. 2nd Rifle Brigade killed at Ladysmith on the 6th April 1900

Corporal Albert Noice JAMES. 3rd Coy, Imperial Yeomanry killed at Harrismith on the 18th May 1901. (Wills and Admin, Ancestry) He lived at Sudley Lodge Farm, Winchcombe, Corporal, 3rd Coy Imperial Yeomanry. His effects went to John James, farmer. In 1891 he was living with his parents John and Caroline at Detchford Friary, Shelton, Warwickshire.
