Extended Description: Barbara Elisabeth LEECH. S.R.N., C.S.M., M.G. Nursing Sister 266730 QAIMNS. Born 15 February 1917 to Thomas and Winifred Amy Leech of Enfield Middlesex.
1939, Probationer Nurse at 09 Beverley Road, Bromley Kent
Killed at sea on the 12th February 1944 aged 27 whilst on the SS Khedive Ismail. The ship departed on the 6 February 1944 from Kilindini Harbour at Mombasa, Kenya to Colombo, Ceylon in Convoy KR-8. It was attacked and sunk by two torpedoes fired from a B1 type Japanese submarine in the Indian Ocean, 1,297 perished. Commemorated on the Brookwood 1939-1945 Memorial, Surrey, also on Guys Hospital War Memorial.
