This image was taken approx 11 days before the raid. These pilots must nerves of steel to fly his low over emery controlled areas
This must have been taken by a very brave pilot at this height and as you say, over occupied territory.
 
Recce pilots during this period were all NUTTERS!!! One being Wg Cdr Warburton who flow all his recce missions out of Malta at the height of the German attacks. He had over 350 missions to his credit when he went missing on 12 April, 1944. In his life time he was awarded the DFC and two bars, the DSO and one bar and an American DFC awarded by President Roosevelt.
