Birth name Alfred John Evans.
Son of Samuel and Eliza Evans, of 3, Fairhaven Street, Hyde Road, West Gorton, Manchester. His mother was awarded a war gratuity 23 March 1918, revised 28 November 1919. He was born at West Gorton, Manchester. Grandson of Samuel and Emma Evans, Brook House, Stoke Heath.

At rest at Gorre British and Indian Cemetery, France.

Commemorated on his grandparents' headstone at

Stoke upon Tern St Peter Cemetery, Shropshire.
