5th (Hackney) Bn The Royal Berkshire Regiment
the nucleus of
No 8 Beach Group.
Landed on Juno Beach on D-Day 6 June 1944 in Support of the 3rd Canadian Division and provided a beach head through which troops, tanks, vehicles and 319,980 tons of supplies were landed until the Mulberry Harbour was fully operational. Beach groups were the principal supply points for the Allied Forces

Born 1913 to Thomas Henry and May Florence Cloves, nee Reed. Husband of Ivy Charlotte Cloves, nee Butterfield, of Hackney, London. They were married 20 June 1936 at St James the Less Bethnal Green, Green. At the time of marriage, he was residing at 13 Woolpack Place Morning Lane, Bethnal Green. Both were aged 23 years at marriage.
Died 6th June 1944 age 31 years.
At rest in Bayeux War Cemetery, France.

Warrant Officer Class 2, 3304328 JOSEPH JAMES SNOWBALL 5th Royal Berkshire Regiment.
Born 1904 to Joseph and Emily Snowball, nee Thomas. 1911 with his parents and siblings at 111 Brunswick Street, Haggerston, Shoreditch, London
Husband of Violet Edith Snowball, nee Whitt of Twyford, Berkshire.
Died 7th June 1944 age 40 years.
At rest in Bayeux War Cemetery, France.

Born 13 March 1913 to David and Emily Sarah Butler, nee Watts. Husband of Jessie Butler, nee McCarthy of Laindon, Essex.
1939 with his wife at 35 Franklin Street, Poplar London. Occupation Jointer of Gas & Water Mains Heavy Work
Died 7 June 1944 age 32 years.
At rest in Kingston Cemetery, Portsmouth, Hampshire.
