5th (Hackney) Bn The Royal Berkshire Regiment
the nucleus of
No 8 Beach Group.
Landed on Juno Beach on D-Day 6 June 1944 in Support of the 3rd Canadian Division and provided a beach head through which troops, tanks, vehicles and 319,980 tons of supplies were landed until the Mulberry Harbour was fully operational. Beach groups were the principal supply points for the Allied Forces.
