Ukrainian tankers serving on two PT-91 Twardy tanks donated by Poland survived a massive attack carried out by the Russians using anti-tank grenade launchers and guided missiles. All this is due to the reactive armor, including the Polish ERAWA-2, and additional ERA armor cubes.

In the above recording published at the end of April, we see the moment of firing at ex-Polish tanks using various types of anti-tank weapon, including guided missiles of an unknown type (Konkurs?). The tanks were hit in various places, although most hits were on the sides of the hull and turret. In this case, the local modification used on the PT-91 Twardy was also important in the form of placing additional ERA cubes (Kontakt-1) in the middle of the hull side, which also contributed to the survival of the tank crews. One of the vehicles here has a destroyed frame and some modules, so it took at least one or two hits. The additional protection fulfilled its most important function, the PT-91 Twardy crews survived and evacuated, leaving the tanks in a condition suitable for renovation and return to service.

So far, Poland has provided Ukraine with 60 PT-91 tanks (although there are reports that the number is higher), which were equipped with the Ukrainian 22nd Separate Mechanized Brigade responsible for the defense of the Zaporizhia front.

I was part of a M109A2 gun crew during Desert Storm. My biggest fear was getting hit from two miles away by a round in this manner. We survived an ambush as we had 3/66 armor escorting us as we travelled very close to the front performing artillery raids. During an ambush at a refueling point we lost 5 Abrams. You can see them listed on the Wikipedia page History of the Abrams tank. The five with Task Force 1-41. I saw two get hit around the engine myself.

It's all statistics ;)
