My gramp was in the Royal Artillery. I have his service records they don’t make much sense to me, however, he was discharged from the army and reassigned to the Royal Navy. Will he have a different service number? If so how do I find his service number for the Royal Navy. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome
I am assuming you have his complete service records?
RN service numbers were indeed different to army numbers see below.

The numbers of ratings consisted of a Prefix indicating their Port Division (responsible for their training, promotion and manning of ships), a forward slash, a Main Letter denoting their trade, and a 4-6 figure number. An additional letter "X" after the main letter indicates that the rating was engaged after the the new pay code of the early 1930s was introduced.

See if you can see something similar on his record , if you do that is his number for the Royal Navy

Thank you for this. I attach his service record to show when he left the army and went into the navy could you see if you can find the service number I can't see it. Also maybe you could help me to understand his records it's all very confusing. I would be most grateful.
