So Germany decided to water it down again (with sheer ignorance).

A forum under the lead of Fraunhofer was established which should monitor the development and set boundaries on the scope of deployment of autonomous weapon systems.

France and Spain should go on and create a credible weapon System while there could be a watered down option for Germany where the System superviser (Pilot) can spend his time checking the rules and then release the systems after a thorough Investigation and multiple cross checks.

This idiotic idea (naturally from Germany we can`t have too evil and dangerous a weapons) sets ad absurdum the whole concept.

What should the "Supervisor" do? How much time do those reality detached folks think a combat pilot has in a full blown high threat scenario?

Now he must also ethically monitor the loyal wingmans...

While probable adversaries unleash on you KI controlled drones you are constrained by morality.

I get some restraints are needed for low threat Environments and possible civilian interference in teh form of passenger planes.

But on territorial defense and air superiority this is senseless, everbody not possessing IFF has no business being up there and is self responsible for his actions.

Third implementation agreement for NGWS / FCAS signed

This set the framework for the activities in the period 2021 to 2027.

According to the BMVg, the next interim goal in the program is to show the first flight demonstrations in 2027.

New engine vor FCAS.

(Contrary to some non-sense I read that it will get an M88 engine)

The project is called NEFE and will be a high power variable cycle engine, there is a nice video in the link illustrating the concept.

A powerful engine for a powerful fighter

For the Next European Fighter Engine, MTU is harnessing a variable cyclic process that greatly reduces consumption while enhancing mission flexibility.

French DGA, Safran Complete Test of New Turbine Concept for FCAS Aircraft

The test required 5 years of preparation in order to develop the technologies useful for the future engine of the FCAS combat aircraft.

Initiated in 2015 by the DGA and entrusted to Safran, the Turenne program consists of two phases. The 1st phase lasted 5 years, under the supervision of DGA Project Engineering at the Balard site in Paris, to create, digitally test, and produce an innovative turbine concept, the DFA said in a release.

This revolutionary turbine has also been the subject of international patents with engineers from the DGA as co-inventors.
