Hardy started his career as a sing in the Vaudeville halls at the age of 12 before going into the movie business. His first main part was in the 1923 film of ‘The Wizard of Oz.’
Earlier this year a life size bronze statue of Stan Laurel was unveiled in the market square of Ulverston where he was born. There is also a small museum dedicated to the two of them in the same town.
A fellow author lives in the town so the wife and I visit her from time to time and I get all my Laurel and Hardy DVDs and mugs etc from the museum.
