I don’t have official pictures, but my grandfather received this as a retirement present in the late 80’s after 39 years as a Boeing engineer. This was the P80 he was a crew chief for while in the USAAF

Thanks for having this thread. I was looking at the model and, on a whim, decided to look into the P-80 more. I started reading, researching, and looking at pictures. I started getting excited when I started seeing similar tail numbers. It eventually led me to all the resources you have here. Much appreciated!
 
When was "USAF" added to the upper right and lower left wings? I've seen P-8s/F-80s in 1948 with and without USAF on the wings. Any thoughts?
