A very pretty place, my only visit there was actually this time of year when it was turning cold. Always a little wind due to the altitude. It is the county seat for Pahrump Nv and covers 18,159 sq miles. I think it is the second largest county in the US. They have the court house and sheriff offices located there and they of course control the purse strings for all of that 18,159 sq miles. Pahrump Nv where I was living had a large population and was only 65 miles from Las Vegas. The entire county has 50,000 people spread out everywhere. If you get jury duty they will bus you to Tonopah but only pay you 3 bucks per day. I think they do that so people in the larger towns don't have any of the money. This Binion death happened while I lived there and when I left in 2005 it was said that 1 million dollars of that money removed from the underground bunker was stolen by then High Sheriff of Tonopah county. He personally put all the silver in vehicles and took it to Tonopah. I truly believe he and others attempted to put the heist on this woman in this article. He was very corrupt and wore 5 gold stars !!! I've often wondered what possessed law enforcement to wear 5 gold stars. The article says that Binion was not a hard drug user is a pure made up lie. He was banned from Las Vegas and his license seized. It was then that he had this underground bunker made and he moved all the silver dollars from his at that time casino. He had inherited the casino from his Father. It is like the wild west in Nv. Just as I was leaving Nv to come back to Houston it was that time that Harry Reid was under investigation for not disclosing 4 million he had, he at the time would become the speaker of the house for the democrats so that tells you all you need to know about what is going on in Nv. It was them that attempted to steal all the land of a rancher who's family had been on the property for decades. This was when they had a little shootout with all his supporters. They arrested the man and jailed him and they were later forced to release them man and pay restitution. They are corrupt to the bone, to this day this is the reason it is hard to get a republican in office in NYE county. It all goes back to the mob rule days.
