Sir Sydney Camm Designer of the Hawker Typhoon and Tempest aircraft
Camm was in charge of Hawker's Kingston-upon-Thames for 12 years when plans for the typhoon and Tempest series of aircraft began in 1937
He had up to that point designed some truly great aircraft including the Hawker...
Hawker Typhoon Mark IB, EK139 HH-N "Dirty Dora", of No 175 Squadron, Royal Air Force, undergoing servicing in a blast-walled dispersal point at Colerne. Two dummy bombs for practice loading on to the wing racks can be seen in the foreground.
Two flights in formation. Squadron Leader Pheloung leads in US-A. By 1943 these "vics" of three were only used to impress photographers. This photo appeared in 'Flight', 6 January 1944.
