7th Army 101st A.B. WW - II Normandy US ARMY PHOTO: The 101st AB is on the road between Bastogne & Haufalige, Belgium as they move up to stem German drive, 12/14/44.
The powerful Belgian fortress of Eben Emael covered the Albert canal just south of Maastricht. German airborne troops, shown here are eletated in their victory. They landed on top of it in gliders, destroyed many guns and observation slits then forced the numerically superior garrison to surrender.
Stanley CARTLIDGE died 24th June 1992 aged 71. Ex First Airborne Parachute Regiment. He was born on the 18th February 1921. He is at rest with his wife in St Lawrence extended churchyard, Biddulph, Staffordshire
