German paratroopers and marines, assigned to units from the Australian Defence Force and the United States Marine Corps respectively, took part in Exercise Talisman Sabre 23 for the first time this year. The unfamiliar terrain was of particular interest to the Germans, as was the ADF's Boxer combat reconnaissance vehicle due to also enter service with the German military in 2025. (From ES&T)

Held in the summer forests north of the Arctic Circle, Ex Northern Forest was a joint exercise between UK, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian, Estonian, Latvian and US troops. It tested interoperability and tactics for the various forces, whilst also providing a completely different training environment from that of Salisbury Plain back in the UK. Never has our relationship with our NATO allies been more important, and this was an excellent exercise to build and improve our relationships across the militaries of NATO nations.
