What a Russian plane was doing flying over Colombian airspace

The National Air Defense System detected, on the morning of this Monday, that a Russian aircraft entered from a position different from that authorized to cross the Colombian airspace. "On Monday, April 19 at 09:22 hours, the Illyushin II-96-400VPU aircraft of the Russian Government was detected, coming from Moscow, which had overflight permission 0354/21, which established entry to Colombian airspace by coordinates 12 '28'41.46 ”W71º24'0.75” north of La Guajira, outside the continental territory, "read the statement from the Colombian Air Force (FAC).

Informed sources told the local news paper, EL TIEMPO that it is verified whether the Ilyuhin II-96-400 VPU belongs to a special Kremlin flight squad that only transports personalities or objects of high value. The aircraft was located at coordinates 12'28'41.46 ”W71º24'0.75” by Kfir airplanes from the FAC. The same sources assure that although the pilot cited a permit post from him, it was not located for which he was ordered to be intercepted. That is why he was denied entry and CACOM-2, in Barranquilla, was asked to deploy a couple of Kfir fighters. "It was intercepted at coordinates close to the city of Santa Marta," they explained. Accounts in networks connected with the Venezuelan regime assured that it was a humanitarian flight that supposedly transported vaccines to combat the covid, information that no authority has confirmed. In addition, another of the accounts, followed by Jorge Arreaza, Venezuelan Foreign Minister, indicates that he was heading to Nicaragua.

"On some occasions they deviate from the route to test Colombia's reaction capacity," an expert told EL TIEMPO. And he added that this plane is cargo and differs from the Túpolev Tu-160 or 'White Swan' which, in November 2013, violated national space. These planes were intercepted by Kfir planes: "Those are supersonic, with the capacity to even carry warheads."

According to the FAC, once this information was known, the Colombian Air Force Command and Control Center ordered the departure of the interceptor aircraft, in accordance with air interdiction procedures.
