WW1 aviation

American Graflex camera used for aerial photo recon.
While Graflex and Speed Graphic cameras had excellent lenses, it was a cumbersome system with sheets of film in separate carriers. A protective slide over the film had to be removed and replaced for each shot. Having used this type, I have a mental image of protective slides blowing away in flight.
