WILLIAMS, William Arthur

WILLIAMS, William Arthur, Private 25504, 17th Royal Welsh Fusiliers, killed in action in France 31st July 1917 aged 21. he was the son of Edward and Eliza of Brook Villa, Mold. He is commemorated on his parents memorial in Mold Cemetery and also on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

He joined the army on the 2nd March 1915 at Llandudno, Wales aged 19yrs and his home address was given as Laburum Cottage, Cud Oll nr Mold, occupation, Plumber and Hot Water Fitter. He was posted as Private 25504 Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Whilst at Flowerdown, Winchester he was the Regimental Bugler and on the afternoon of the 20th September 1915 (at 2.pm he messed up, putting it politely) He was charged by Company Sergeant Major W.E.Hughes for being five minutes late for Sounding Quarter Dress for the 2pm parade. He was confined to barracks for two days by 2nd Lt B Williams.
He embarked Southampton for France on the 4th December and arrived at Havre 5th December 1916 and joined the 17th Battalion in the field.
The 15th April 1916 he received a gunshot wound to he left thigh in the field. He was recovered and taken to 105 Field Ambulance who then took him to 7th Casualty Clearing Station where he was admitted. The 27th April 1916 he was discharged from 7th.C.C.S fit for service and rejoined his regiment in the field. On the 20th July 1916 he was admitted to 129 Field Ambulance with a gunshot wound to the back. He was later admitted to a Field Hospital (unable to make the name out) and was discharged fit to rejoin his regiment in the field on the16th January 1917. 31st July 1917 he was killed in action in the field. He was in France from 4th December 1915 to his death 31st July 1917. He served 2 years and 153 days.
