TOMLINSON WILLIAM Stoker 1st Class Service Number 301735
Royal Navy (RFR/PO/B/2240). H.M.S. "Good Hope."
Died 01/11/1914 aged 35
Born 1878 at Hanley.
Son of Charles and Martha Tomlinson (nee Pickin), 5, Charles Street, Hanley, husband of Mary Tomlinson, 26, Hampton Street, Hanley.
8 October 1902 he enlisted in the Royal Navy and was posted to HMS Duke of Wellington II as Able Seaman 301735, occupation on joining presser.
16 July 1907 he left the Navy, end of engagement, rank of Stoker Class II.
18 July 1911 he re-joined the Navy at Portsmouth into Royal fleet Reserve as B2240 as Stoker Class II.
1 November 1914 lost when HMS Good Hope was sunk in action off the Chilean Coast.
Commemorated at Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Hampshire.
