Extended Description
Private 8033 William THIRKILL. 3rd Yorkshire Light Infantry died u August 1901 aged 19 years. Born at Halsted, Essex, occupation, labourer and enlisted on the 12th March 1901, son of William who was granted a gratuity on the 29th December 1901.

Private 7140 Albert SIMS. 3rd Yorkshire Light Infantry died 7 August 1901 aged 24 years. Born at Cinderford, Gloucestershire, occupation, collier and enlisted on the 10th August 1899, son of Alfred and Emma.

Both Thirkill and Sims drowned at Ghain Tuffieha on the 7th August 1901. (This beach was known locally, in those days, as Military Beach)

Private 7609 James COWEN. 3rd Yorkshire Light Infantry died aged 20 died 3rd December 1901 Born at Sheffield, occupation, butler enlisted on the 5th June 1901, son of Elizabeth and brother to Alice and George who were all granted part gratuity on the 6th March 1902.

All at rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. Plot 02. Row 26. Grave 06.
