William Robertson DSO

Sacred to the memory of Field Marshal, Sir William Robertson.
Baronet of Welbourne Co Lincoln. G.C.B. G.C.M.G. G.C.V.O. D.S.O. LL.D. Cambridge D.C.L. Oxford.
Died 12 February 1933.

He enlisted in the 16th Lancers 1877 was promoted 2nd Lieutenant 3rd Dragoon Guards 1883 and was created Field – Marshal 1920.
He served in the North West Frontier of India 1895 and South African 1899 -1900 and was Commandant of the Staff College 1910 – 1913.
In the Great War he was Quarter-Master-General of Chief of the General Staff 1914-1915 and Chief of the Imperial General Staff in 1915-1918.
He was General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army of the Rhine 1919-1920.
For his service in the Great War he was created a Baronet and was thanked and rewarded by Parliament.
