He was hijacked at gunpoint by the PIRA while driving along Halliday’s Road New Lodge Belfast at 0930am while off duty. It appears that the hijackers may have searched him and found he was a soldier. He was found shot dead a short time later in an entry between the New Lodge Road and Stratheden Street, New Lodge, Belfast. 16 March 1973, aged 28. The police and army knew his car had been hijacked but they were not aware he had been kidnapped.

His last residence was Mount Collyer Street, Belfast. At rest in Roselawn Cemetery, Ballygowan Road Belfast. Grave T.3162.
This memorial is at the Ulster Grove at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire. Please note. There are NO names inscribed on the memorial. Virtual Memorial to those who lost their lost their lives
