William KNOWLSON. Robert EMMETT. Albert ASHTON.

Extended Description
KNOWLSON William. Private, 10961, 2nd Battalion, South Wales Borderers. Died of wounds 18th August 1915. Born about 1893 at Clifton Bristol, Gloucestershire enlisted at Brecon, South Wales. Son of Emily who was granted a war gratuity on the 12th June 1918. In 1901 he was living with his mother Emily (nee Tasker) and siblings at 11a Moorfield Square St George, Bristol. His father Henry William was not at home when the census was taken. In 1911 he was a boarder at the home of William and Florence Abrahams, of 92, Queens Road, Cwmsyfiog, Bedwelty, Monmouthshire. He was working as a timberman at a colliery. ( Uk, Army Register of Soldiers' Effects, Ancestry), record his surname as Knowles.

EMMETT Robert. Private, 13172, 6th Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment. Died of wounds 13th August 1915 at Malta from wounds received at Gallipoli. His widow, Annie was granted a war gratuity on the 25th January 1916.



ASHTON Albert. Private, 2095, 7th Battalion, Essex Regiment. Died of wounds at sea in a hospital ship bound for Malta on the 20th August 1915. Born at Higher Broughton, Manchester, son of Walter who was granted a war gratuity on the 3rd January 1916.
