TOWNSEND William John. Private, CH/18886, Royal Marines Light Infantry on HMS Egmont. Born 19 March 1896 at Clerkenwell, London Died 22nd June 1918 aged 22 years of an intestinal obstruction and perforation in a hospital in Malta. In 1901 he was residing with his parents Charles and Julia and siblings at Albion Place, Clerkenwell, London, 1911 he was residing with his widowed father and siblings at 253 St Johns Street Clerkenwell London occupation brass finisher. At rest in Plot C Grave 378 Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta.
This stone was erected by his shipmates as a toke of respect.
We mess and mourn him in silence unseen and dwell on the memories of days that have bee. Not though of and forgotten by some he may be but never forgotten by us he will be
