William Herbert BRADLEY

BRADLEY, William Herbert. Private 30294, 324th Protection Company, Royal Defence Corps died 14th April 1918 aged 61. He was the husband of Ruth, nee Stanway of 20, Silk Street, Macclesfield. He is at rest Macclesfield Cemetery Cheshire.
Some notes from both of his army records. He first joined up on the 27th November 1881 and he was posted to Harrington aged 19 years and 3 months as private 315, South Lancashire Regiment on the 28th December 1881. He lived in Macclesfield worked was a labourer, and his mother, Maria was his next of kin. During this period he served in South Africa from the 26th June 1884 to the 9th February 1887. and then (I am unable to read what country he served in) it was from 10th February 1887 to 28th February 1889. Then he was posted back to England. On the 19th December 1893 he was transferred to 1st Class Army Reserve on termination of his engagement with the colours.
He rejoined the army and he embodied on the 5th September 1914 and was posted to the Cheshire regiment, No 1 Supply Company as Private 30294 aged 47. He was living with his wife, Ruth and children, at 20 Silk Street, Macclesfield, he was employed as a slater, tiler. He was transferred on the 28th April 1916 to the 323rd, Royal Defence Corps, and then on the 28th October 1916 to the 324th R.D.C. He had started to have ill health which originated in 1916 at Sandycroft He was on a Medical Board on the 12th December 1917 where he was found to be physically unfit for war service. In the report there is a reference to him having cardiac pain, and coughing at night
