LEACH William Henry. Corporal, C/13481, 2nd East Surrey Regiment. Died 7th June 1918 in Malta from meningitis. His widow Violet Annie (nee Gough) who he married in 1903 was granted a war gratuity on the 28th August 1918.
Some notes from what remains of his army records.
He joined up on the 4th August 1915 aged 35 years and 8 months. He lived at 27 Longfield Street, Southfields, London with his wife Violet Annie and children. He was working as a drapers packer. He was married on the 25th July 1903 to Violet Annie Gough at High Wycombe parish church, Buckinghamshire. They had two children, Veral Violet born 4th May 1904 at Wandsworth, London and Edward Henry born 8th July 1910 at Southfields, London. After he had completed his training he was post to Salonika on the 28th August 1916, promoted to corporal on the 30th August 1915 while serving with the 13th Battalion. In November 1917 he was admitted to 48th General Hospital, Salonika suffering from malaria. February 1918 admitted to 29th General Hospital, Salonika now suffering from spinal tuberculosis and psoar abscess. He was invalided to Malta on Hospital Ship, Breamar Castle from Salonika and admitted into Military Hospital Tigne, Malta on the 5th April 1918 and died in this hospital at 7-52pm on the 8th June 1918

LEECH Herbert Bradfield. Private, 45432, 7th Battalion, South Wales Borderers. Died 23rd May 1918 in Cottonera Hospital, Malta. His widow, Clara was granted a war gratuity on the 28th August 1918, last revised on the 12th January 1920. He was married on the 13th May 1911 at the parish church, Bristall, Yorkshire to Miss Clara Roberts. He was aged 29, cloth knotter and lived at 8 Birket Street, off Prospect Road, Cleckheaton. His father Jonathan was deceased. Clara was aged 26 and lived at 6 Prospect Terrace, Cleckheaton her father Fred was also deceased.
