Lance Corporal 240880, William Henry BRAILSFORD, 1/6th Sherwood Foresters,
Born 1892 to William and Emma Brailsford. 1901-1911 with his parents and siblings at Flaxpiece Road, Clay Cross. 1911 occupation coal miner pony driver. Late the family moved to Thanet Street, Clay Cross
He enlisted on the 21st October 1914 aged 22yrs and 9 months, occupation was a collier. Posted to 6th Reserve Sherwood Foresters Depot the same day. 12 June 1915 attached to 9th Provisional Battalion. 11 June 1916 Posted to the 6th Reserve Battalion. Embarked for France 11 June 1916. Promoted to Lance Corporal in the field 26 February 1917. Killed in action in France 4th November 1917 aged 25. His mother was granted a war gratuity 2 July 1918 revised 3 December 1919.
Commemorated on a family headstone in Clay Cross Cemetery, Derbyshire also on the Loos Memorial, France.
