William HADLEY Paymaster of the 68th Regiment (Durham Light Infantry) who died at Malta on the 10th November 1856 aged 57.
Army career: Ensign 10th April 1825 : Lieutenant 24th September 1831 : Captain, Paymaster, 68th Regiment, 13th July 1849. Served with the Queen’s Royals throughout the campaign in Afghanistan, and Keloochistan under Lord Keane. Was present at the storming and capture of Ghuznee, where he was wounded, and of Khelat. Also served in Southern Mahratta country in 1844 including the storming of the Fortress of Punella and the Fortress of Concan in 1845. Also the investment and capture of the Forts of Monohur and Munsuntosh. Received a medal for Ghuznee. He left a widow and large family. A freemason. This stone is erected by his brother officers. At rest in Msida Bastion Cemetery, Floriana, Malta.
