William Ellis BOWDEN. Flight Lieutenant 40502, Royal Air Force stationed at RAF Hullavington. Born 18th October 1918 died 29th May 1951 aged 32. Native of Canada, son ofGeorge S Bowden. His wife was called Kathleen E nee Nones. At rest in London Road Cemetery, Chippenham, Wiltshire.

He was serving with 60 Squadron, Royal Air Force. He was shot down over the Gulf of Siam and was captured East of Chine Sea 9th February 1941. Later into POW Camp in Saigon from the 15th December 1941 to 2nd February 1942 then Zentsuji 3rd February 1942 to 25th June 1944 and finally Mitsushima, Hiroaka from 26th June 1945 until his rescue about September 1945.

Anson T21 VS582 from 1 Air Navigation School, Royal Air Force, crashed 1 mile east south east of Little Sodbury, Gloucestershire near to the Cross Hands Pub Flew into hillside in low cloud at night during BABS (Blind Approach Beam System) letdown to Hullavington. He was on the approach to RAF Hullavington.
