Signalman 240860, William ELLIOT, 2/6th Sherwood Foresters formerly Pte 3033, same regiment.
Born 1896, youngest son of George and Mary Ellen, nee Thorpe. 1901-1911 with his parents and siblings at The Firs, Flaxpiece Road, Clay Cross.
Enlisted 20 October 1914 as Private 3033 into the 6th Reserve Battalion Sherwood Foresters. T.F. Transferred as Pte 240860 6th Sherwood Foresters later that day. He was aged 19 years and 4 months, occupation clerk.
In France 26 February 1917 and killed in action 27 April 1917 aged 21.
His mother was granted a war gratuity 1 August 1917 revised 28 October 1919.
Commemorated on a family memorial in Clay Cross Cemetery, Derbyshire also on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France
