War 1879, present at the Battle of Ulundi (mentioned in despatches, Medal and Clasp), Colonel 1884, Assistant Military Secretary to the General Officer commanding at the Cape of Good Hope 1880-85, Major-General 13 January 1895, J.P- and D.L. for County Down.
