William BRACEGIRDLE

BRACEGIRDLE, William. Private 48695, Labour Corps, formerly Private 73460, King\'s Liverpool Regiment died 4th February 1920 aged 43. He was the son of William and he was the husband of Annie of 91, Waterloo Street, Macclesfield. He is at rest Macclesfield Cemetery Cheshire.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He signed up on the 4th December 1915 and was transferred into the Army Reserve. On the 26th August 1916 he was mobilised aged 42 he was again transferred to the army reserve. On the 5th March 1917 he was mobilised and posted to the Liverpool Regiment. He was by occupation a stone dresser and he lived at 5, Dicken Street, Macclesfield with his wife and family. He was in France on the 17th March 1917, transferred to the 82nd Labour Corps on the 14th May 1917 as Private 48695 and was posted back the Western Command Labour Corps Depot on the 22nd May 1917. He was admitted into the 1st Northern General Hospital, Newcastle on Tyne on the 22nd May 1917 suffering from Tubercular disease of the spine, abscesses. He was discharged from the hospital and the army as no longer physically fit for war service on the 8th May 1918. It appears that he was kept in hospital because on the 5th July 1918 he was transferred to the Manchester Royal Infirmary. According to his record he died on the 30th January 1920. He was married on the Annie Higginbottom on the 31st December 1899 at Christchurch, Macclesfield. His children were called Florence born 2nd June 1902, Martha Jane born 16th September 1903 and Alfred born, 20th March 1905.
