Private William Bernard Henry LINDSEY No. 203097 2/5th Bn. Gloucestershire Regiment Died 17 March 1920 aged 22 Son of Samuel George and Sarah Ann LINDSEY, nee Hadley of 9 Percy Street, Shurdington. His father was carpenter and ex Royal Engineers.
At rest in Shurdington St Paul's Churchyard, Gloucestershire.

Baptised 15 June 1898 at St James Church, Gloucester, Gloucestershire. Parents residing at 3 Upton Street, Gloucester City, father's occupation, carpenter.
1901 Census he was residing whith his parents and siblings at 9 Percy Street, Shurdington., father carpenter.
1911 residing with his parents and siblings at 9 Lady Belle, Gate Street, Gloucester City, father's occupation, foreman packer.
16 October 1918 he was awarded the Silver War Badge. He was medically discharged from the army, wounded in action. Badge number B17303

On the burial records for this churchyard held at Gloucester Archives his residence was given as New Inn Shurdington and he was laid to rest 20 March 1920 by Vicar J Swinburne Bateson.

On his headstone it states which is at the entrance to the churchyard, on the right -
BURIED ELSEWHERE IN THIS CHURCHYARD IS PRIVATE LINDSEY.

I will be attempting to find the burial location of his grave on Thursday 16 August 2018. Contact has been made with the church and hopefully they may be able to give anapproximate location. I was informed at the church that church burial plan shows the location of the graves, but, they were only given a number and not a name.

Some information about his father.
On the 16 January 1897 he married Sarah Ann Hadley at St James Church, Gloucester City. both aged 21. His occupation was given as soldier stationed at Aldershot.
He enlisted into the Militia, 3 Gloucestershire Regiment on the 29 October 1898 aged 19 years and 8 months, occupation, carpenter. At some stage he was transferred into the Mounted Detatchment, Royal Engineers as Sapper 28686 stationed at Aldershot, occupation, skilled carpenter. On the 7 October 1897 he was discharged from the army to 1 Ivy Place, Victoria Street, Gloucester City.
