Killed 8th May 1942 aged 22 on board the submarine when she was mined and sunk about 6 miles off St Elmo Point, Malta. It appears that she may have strayed into a minefield. Son of George and Mary Anderson Ward of Glasgow.

Killed 8th May 1942 aged 24 on board the submarine when she was mined and sunk about 6 miles off St Elmo Point, Malta. It appears that she may have strayed into a minefield.

Killed 8th May 1942 aged 30 years on board the submarine when she was mined and sunk about 6 miles off St Elmo Point, Malta. It appears that she may have strayed into a minefield.

Able Seaman C/JX 294025, Royal Navy H.M.S.Welshman (M.84) British minelayer (Disguised as a French destroyer arrived at Grand Harbour, Malta with RAF personnel and 240 tons of supplies on the) (Mentioned in Despatches). Born 13 June 1903 at Sunderland, County Durham to Christopher and Mary Lamb, nee Leach, husband of Ada Lamb, nee Ratcliff. 1911 he was residing with his parents and siblings at 15 Lilburn Place, Southwick, County Durham. He enlisted into the navy 3 January 1919 on HMS Ganges II as J94096 Boy 2nd Class, civilian occupation, boy plater at the local shipyard. 1 January 1929 he left the navy. 1939 he was residing with his wife at 28 Worley Avenue, Gateshead, County Durham, occupation, postman. He re-entered the navy on the 17 July 1941 as Able Seaman JX294025. Died 10th May 1942 aged 38 years as the result of an explosion when detonated two mines with her paravanes sustaining some minor damage.

Born 6 September 1921 at Cardiff, Glamorganshire to William Robert and Edith Mary Jones, of Ward End, Birmingham. Died at 45 General Hospital, St Patrick’s, Barracks, Pembroke Garrison, Malta 11th August 1942 aged 20 of a multiple fractures to skull, legs, arms, laceration to body as the result of a road accident on the island.

Two military hospitals reached Malta in 1941. No 45 General Hospital (GH) arrived in May 1941 and was ready to admit patients in July 1941. No 45 GH opened at Pembroke Garrison Gymnasium while the Sandhurst Barrack Block St Patricks was converted into a hospital, which became No 45 GH.
F102 TURNER Bert. Stoker 1st Class P/SKX.202, H.M.S. Manchester. Born 20 June 1921 at Middlesbrough, Yorkshire to Herbert and Sarah Ann Turner, nee Bunn of Middlesbrough, Yorkshire. Died at 45 General Hospital, St Patrick’s, Barracks, Pembroke Garrison, Malta 14th August 1942 aged 21 from injuries received when his ship was torpedo from Italian Motor Torpedo Boats MAS-16 and MAS-22. Badly damaged, the ship had to be scuttled by her crew. 150 men lost their lives.
