He was killed off duty by a car bomb explosion outside McGurk\'s Bar, Bridge Street, Portadown, CountyArmagh as he drove past at the time of the explosion on the 6th September 1972 aged 54. He is at rest Craigavon Commission Cemetery, Batchelors Walk, Portadown, County Armagh
