The Russians are completing upgrades of these Typhoon submarines although very slowly. They are also completing and trialling new (3rd generation) attack submarines, the Akulas (Sharks). There are two upgraded Typhoons coming into service, probably in 2006, The Yuri Dolgoruky (Yuri Longarm, the founder of Moscow) and the Dmitry Donskoi (Prince, who beat the invading Tatars). These will be armed with the new Bulava-M ICBMs with a range of 8,000 kilometres (5,000 miles) - each vessel holding 12 missiles.
