The memorial is situated in St Matthew's churchyard Twigworth


In memory of the men of this parish who gave their lives
for their country during the Great War 1914-1918

1914-1918

BATSFORD George William. Born 1895 at Cheltenham to George and Annie. In 1911 he was residing with his parents and siblings at Highnam Lane, Lassington Gloucestershire. Occupation aged 16 carters boy. He died 1915 in the registration district of Bristol.

BEAK Arthur. Private 4552, 2/5th Gloucestershire Regiment died 8th October 1916. At rest in Cambridge City Cemetery, Cambridgeshire.

BENDALL. Ralph Edwin. Private Ply17918 2nd Royal Marines Naval Division died from disease 22 July 1917. Born 7th September 1897 at Sandhurst Gloucestershire. Son of Edwin and Lucy Bendall. Sister of Mrs Rose M Harris of 2 Philip Street, Gloucester City. At rest in St Roch Communal Cemetery Valenciennes France

BOND Sydney Francis. Ordinary Seaman Z/9789 Royal Navy (VR) R.N. Depot (Crystal Palace) died 9 October 1918 aged 17. Son of Sydney and Elizabeth Bond, of The Willows, Longford, Gloucester. At rest in St Matthew Churchyard Twigworth, Gloucestershire.

BOUCHER Archibald John. Lance Corporal 13534, 8th Gloucestershire Regiment died 28 March 1918 aged 23. Son of Matthew G. and Lydia Eliza Boucher, of Woodland Cottage, Sheepscombe, Stroud, Gloucestershire. At rest in Achiet-Le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension France.

CAKE Edwin Charles. Private 11935, 8th Gloucestershire Regiment killed in action 23 July 1916 aged 21 years. Son of Charles and Kate of Church House, Norton Gloucestershire. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme France.

CLIFFORD John Clement. Private 13728, 8th Gloucestershire Regiment died 23 July 1916 aged 23. Son of John Henry and Sarah Ann Clifford, of 11, Victoria Road, Longford, Gloucester. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme France

DYER Herbert Arthur. 2nd Lieutenant, 65th Squadron, Royal Flying Corps and General List died 7th December 1917. Son of Arthur Edwin and Jessie Louisa Dyer nee Coles. In 1901 aged 13 years he was residing with his parents and siblings at Malcolm Ghur, Bath Road, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. 1911 visiting the Buckley family at 29 Fletcher Street, Warrington, occupation, musician. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.

HARRISON Edward James. Lance Corporal PLY/14366, 2nd Royal Marine Light Infantry Royal Naval Division died 13th November 1916 aged 27. Son of James and Mary, of Matson Cottage, Matson, Gloucestershire. At rest in Ancre British Cemetery Beaumont-Hamel, Somme, France.
