Everything is fake in Tin City, and everything is real. This mock-up township was a vital training centre as the British Army prepared for close quarters fighting in Northern Ireland. But now, like so much of the military infrastructure being left behind in the withdrawal from Germany, its future is uncertain.
Tin City has changed over the years. It started out in the 1980s as an imaginary Ulster community, with solidly built terraced houses, a church, a pub, a post office, a supermarket and a military compound known as Fort Knight.
The township adapted as the British military mission shifted over the decades, and it was given a Balkan flavour. Murphy’s pub became Veselje Kod Djure (“Joy at Djure’s Place” in Serbo-Croat)
