FRASER, Thomas. Gunner, 4189, 4th Highland Mountain Brigade Rosshire Mountain Battery , Royal Garrison Artillery. Died of wounds at St George's Hospital Malta 25th November 1915. Son of William and Jessie of Leachkin, Inverness, husband of Catherine.
Some notes from what remains of his army records.
He joined up on the 9th May 1912 at Lockcarron aged 30 and 6 months into the Rosshire Mountain Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. He was previously served with the 4th Volunteer Mountain Cameron Highlanders. He was employed by Baron Schroeder as an estate labourer. On the outbreak of the war his joined (embodied service) on the 5th August 1914. On the 19th March 1915 he embarked with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force from Avonmouth, disembarking at Alexandria on the 2nd April 1915. On the 8th May 1915 he disembarked from Alexandria and disembarked at Gallipoli on the 24th May 1915. He was taken sick at Gallipoli on the 15th August 1915 and treated at 30 Field Ambulance, same day transferred to 26th Casualty Clearing Station, suffering from bronchitis. At some stage he was discharged fit for duty. On the 26th October 1915 he was once again admitted to hospital (debility) at Gallipoli. He was transferred at date not recorded to St George's Hospital, Malta. It was recorded that he was dangerously ill on the 6th November 1915 and he died of dysentery in the hospital on the 25th November 1915. He left a wife and children - Florence, born 10th April 1904, Catherine, born 5th April 1906, Isabella, born 22nd September 1909 and Jessie, born 18th June 1913. In 1920 his widow was living at White House, Lochcasson.
RANN Alfred Charles. Trooper, 340, 11th Australian Light Horse. Died of his wounds, 26th November 1915, aged 25 years. The son of Alfred and Lucy Rann, of Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight.
FRASER Thomas. Lance Corporal, 1601, 1st Lovat Scouts, Scottish Highland Yeomanry died 26th November 1915, aged 26 years. The son of Thomas and Annie Fraser, of Midtown, Scaniport, Inverness.
