BRADFIELD Thomas .Squadron Sergeant Major. 2059, Fife and Forfar Yeomanry, died 15th December 1915. Born in Kingsfield, Middlesex.

WINTER Frank Albert. Sapper, 69362, 72nd Field Coy., Royal Engineers, died 17th December 1915, aged 34 years. He was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth of Springroad, Abingdon, Berkshire. In 1911 he was boarding at the home of his future in laws, Harry and Harriet Girling and his wife to be, Florence at 42, Lucknow Street, Fratton, Portsmouth. His occupation was a house painter. He married Florence on the 17th April 1911 at Portsmouth and they lived at 32, Lawson Road, Southsea, Portsmouth, later they moved to 59 Carlisle Road, Southsea, Portsmouth. They had one child, Edith Wini born 30th January 1912 at Portsmouth. Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the 18th February 1915 at Chatham aged 35 and 263days. Lived with his wife at 32 Lawson Road, Southsea and was by occupation a painter. He had previously served 12 years with the Royal Engineers. He embarked for the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on the 18th June 1915, destination not given. On the 17th December 1915 he was in a hospital in Malta with a gun shot wound to his right leg which resulted in a compound fracture to his thigh which resulted into a pulmonary embolus, to a lung, which in this case was fatal. He died at 10-45am on the 17th December 1915. "Gone but not forgotten"

KAVANAGH William. Private, 19167, 6th, South Lancashire Regiment, He was taken ill in Gallipoli and died in Malta on the 17th December 1915, aged 40 years. He was the son of the late James and Mary Kavanagh, and husband of the late Elizabeth Kavanagh. In 1901 he was living with his wife and children his son, William Henry and three stepdaughters Isabella, Ellen and Elizabeth Ainsworth at 37, Copeland Street, Everton, Liverpool. he was working as a labourer. Some notes from what remains of his army record. On the 13th May 1915 he enlisted at Warrington aged 36 and was by occupation a labourer. He was widower and lived at 66, Coniston Street, Breck Road, Liverpool. He was posted to Fulwood Barracks, Preston. On the 7th February 1897 he married, spinster, Miss Elizabeth, nee Ainsworth at St Nicholas Church, Liverpool. His wife died at their matrimonial home, 84, Earle Road, Liverpool on the 13th December 1908, leaving two children William Henry born 1898 and Florence, born 7th December 1904. On the 17th July 1909 he signed a document giving guardianship to William and Jane Hodgen Archer of 10, Casterton Street, Spekland Street, Liverpool with a promise that he would provide maintenance for his daughter, he never kept his promise. His son William Henry of 26, Thirlman Road, Liverpool was his next of kin. There is a reference to a William, Private 30353 on N10 Camp, Hut 18, Preese Heath Camp, Whitchurch, Salop in a water damaged letter dated 2nd June 1916 from his brother John, that his son William Henry is a private in the army, and also his daughter, Florence who is living with a lady, not a relative and was enquiring about her father. He was posted to the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on the 14th November 1915 and joined his regiment in the field on the 24th November 1915. At some stage he fell ill and was transferred to a hospital in Malta where he died of Acute Bronchitis on the 17th December 1915.
