TENNANT, Bernard Private 43602, 1/8th Manchester Regiment, formerly, of the 2/6th Manchester Regiment, died 9th September 1917 at Ypres. Son of John Drake and Margaret of 73, Alexander Road, Moss Side, Manchester.. Commemorated on the Tyne Cote Memorial, West Vlaanderen, Belgium.

Some notes from what remains of his Army record. He joined up on the 30th November 1914 as Private 3190, 6th Manchester Regiment. He lived with his parents at 73, Alexandra Road, Moss Side, Manchester. On the 4th August 1916 he was attached to the 1/6th Rifle Battalion, The King's Liverpool Regiment and later posted to the 22nd Battalion. He embarked Folkestone on the 18th July 1917 for Boulogne, disembarking the same day. He was sent to 30 Infantry Base depot at Etaples, on the 19th July and posted to the 1/8th Manchester Regiment as private 43602 in France. Whilst in France he suffered from Trench Foot. he was seen at 54, Field Ambulance on the 25th February 1917, transferred the next day to 47, Casualty Clearing Station then to 8th General Hospital, where on the 10th March 1917 he was sent to England for treatment on Hospital Ship, St Denis. No record as to what hospital he was sent to in England or when he was discharged fit for war service. He served in France from the 4th August 1916 to 10th March 1917. In a England from the 10th March 1917 to 17th July 1917 in hospital in England . He was then sent back to France on the 17th July 1917 arriving in France on the 18th. He was killed in action with the 1/8th Manchester regiment in the field. He had a brother, James aged 29, serving at the front in Turkey.
