WALTON Sydney. Drummer 49373, 1st Cheshire Regiment formerly 2961, 7th Reserve, Cheshire Regiment, killed in action 13th April 1917 aged 18. He was the son of William Edward and Clara of 49, Brook Street, Macclesfield and brother of Joseph who also fell in the war.

He is commemorated on his father's memorial at Macclesfield Cemetery, Cheshire and he is at rest in Givenchy-En-Gohelle Canadian Cemetery, Souchez, France.

Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted and embodied on the 21st November 1914. He lived at 30, Bank Street, Macclesfield. He had is medical on the same day, and he gave an address as 52, Bank Street, he was aged 18 years and 6 months On the 23rd January 1915 he was appointed the rank of Drummer which was reverted to the rank of Private on the 19th August 1916 in being selected for Draft to France. On the 30th August 1916 he embarked at Southampton and disembarked at Rouen the next day. He then marched into No 1 Territorial Base Depot the same day to await for his dispersal to his battalion. On the 10th September 1916 he was posted to the 1st Cheshire Regiment. At some stage he was given a new army number as 49373. He was reported missing in action on the 13th April 1917.
