Sybil Gwendoline RICHARDSON. (Miss) Nursing Sister 206418, QAIMNS.
Born 1908 at Leicester, Leicestershire to Hubert Naylor Bardsely Richardson B.A. F.C.S. and Gwendoline Agnes M, nee Cuddon. In 1911 she was residing with her parents and brother, Charles at Stratford House, Victoria Road, Leicester. Killed at sea on the 12th February 1944 aged 23 whilst on the SS Khedive Ismail. The ship departed on the 6 February 1944 from Kilindini Harbour at Mombasa, Kenya to Colombo, Ceylon in Convoy KR-8. It was attacked and sunk by two torpedoes fired from a B1 type Japanese submarine in the Indian Ocean, 1,297 perished. Commemorated on the Brookwood 1939-1945 Memorial, Brookwood Cemetery, Surrey.

Assistant Matron Sybil Gwendoline Richardson, QAIMNS reported missing at sea in February, is now presumed to have lost her life owing to enemy action.
Miss Richardson who was trained in Leicester Royal Infirmary, joined the QAIMNS some years before the war. She had been abroad a number of years, four of them spent in Gibraltar. Miss Richardson was the elder daughter of the late Mr Hubert N.B. Richardson.
