The Steyr Diesel 680M (in the army jargon 680er diesel ) truck was since the late 1960s, the backbone of passenger and material transport in the Austrian army . Its reliability and robustness stood out in particular. Its main purpose is the transportation of supplies and the crew transport. It can accommodate one driver and 19 passengers. In addition to the vehicles for the transport of passengers, there are also vehicles that are equipped for the transport of material with a tail lift, as well as equipped with a double cabin driving school vehicles. The three-axle version was especially used for pulling larger towing loads (field howitzers, field kitchen etc.). In addition to the flatbed truck for goods and crew transport or as a transporter for (radio, workshop) shelter, the Steyr 680 M3 was also built as a tipper (5 or 3 tons), tanker truck and fire engine .
