Sidney Leonard LEAR. Stoker 1st Class K/9272 Royal Navy on HMS Amethyst. Born 22nd June 1892 at St Thomas, London. Enlisted 8th October 1910, occupation prior to enlistment, farm labourer. In 1911 he was a stoker 2nd Class, Royal Navy moored at No 7 Buoy, Portsmouth on HMS Colossus (tender to HMS Vivid). Died of his wounds and secondary haemorrhage at Royal Naval Hospital, Malta 31st March 1915 from shell wounds of head, face, legs, chest and arms, received in action 13th March 1915 on board his ship. Son of Mark and Mary Allcock of 89 Avondale Road, Eastbourne, Sussex. His mother was informed of his death 1st April 1915. At rest in Plot B Grave 238, Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta.
