Samuel Forbes PATTON. Driver 13/600, 8th Battery, 2nd Brigade New Zealand Field Artillery
formerly (Trooper) Auckland Mounted Rifles, N.Z.E.F
Born 3 December 1890 at Ballyrea County Down to Alexander and Mary Patton, nee Johnston of Newtownards, Co Down. He was discharged medically unfit for war service 28 February 1916.
He disembarked 9 October 1916 at London Port from Wellington, New Zealand on ship Rotorua aged 25 years, occupation, soldier.
Died 24 July 1918 age 27 years at his home 9 Crossnamuckley near Newtownards County Down of Pulmonary Phthisis which he had for six months. He was a discharged private from the Auckland Mounted Rifles.
At rest in Movilla Cemetery Newtownards County Down, Northern Ireland.

Enlisted 6 September 1914 aged 23 years and 9 months. Occupation farm labourer, resided at Te Puke near Tauranga, Western Bay of Plenty New Zealand
15 October 1914 embarked New Zealand. 9 May 1915 at the Dardanelles, Gallipoli 9 May 1915.
Reported sick in the field 24 August 1915, Illness not recorded. Invalided to Malta from Mudros on a Hospital Ship admitted into St David’s Hospital Mtarfa Malta the 31 August 1915.
He was then transferred to Hospital Ship Dover Castle for England. Admitted 23 September 1915 into 2nd Western General Hospital, Manchester. 11 January 1916 he was transferred to Grey Towers Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch Road, Hornchurch, Essex. 28 February 1916 he was transferred New Zealand Field Artillery Moascar, Egypt. 1 March 1916 whilst at Moascar he was transferred as Driver to 8th Battalion, 2nd Brigade New Zealand Field Ambulance. 15 March 1916 after a Medical Board he was invalided from Suez Egypt for Military Base at Willochra New Zealand. where he was discharged medically unfit for war service 28 February 1916.
