1911 he was on board H.M.S. Iris at Torbay, Devon
as private Royal Marine Light Infantry aged 21
Husband of Kate Clydesdale, nee Fryer of Devonport. They were married at Eastney Registry Office, Hampshire 12 April 1920
1939 he was residing with his wife at 2 Strand Street, Plymouth, occupation, marine pensioner.
He was on board SS Lady Glanely on 2 December 1940 when the ship was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-101, he was aged 51

Enlisted 3 October 1906 aged 17 years at Annsborough, County Down, Ireland, occupation, linen bleacher. His sister, Margaret Glydesdale of Meadow Row was his next of kin.
Posted to the Royal Marine Depot, Deal, Kent the same day. 1 January 1907 transferred to Plymouth Division and given number 13833. Served during WW1 on ships Iris, Vivid, Flora, Pelorus and Cormorant. Re-engaged 13 August 1919 for a second period of service on ships Warspite, President 8 Feb 1924 to 31 March 1924. Vivid, Marlborough and Benbow. He was discharged after the completion of his second period of service 29 August 1928. He re-engaged on 24 September 1939 at Plymouth and posted to HMS President III 4 November 1939 to his death 2 December 1940. He was awarded Long Service and Good Conduct Medal 29 October 1922, plus WW1 and 2 war medals which were sent to his widow.
Commemorated on a family headstone in Holywood Cemetery, Holywood, County Down also on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Devon
