BRIDGES, Samuel. Rifleman 203605, The Rifle Brigade died 25th February 1920 aged 50. He was the husband of Mary Jane Bridges of 3 Norfolk Street, Leamington. He is at rest in Whitnash Road, Cemetery, Leamington, Warwickshire.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up on the 12th December 1914 into the 7th Royal Warwickshire Regiment, he was aged 44. he had previously served with the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He was with the 7th from the 12th December 1914 to 24th September 1915 when he was transferred to the 21st Midlands Battalion, Rifle Brigade After he had completed his training he was posted to Egypt. Embarking from Devonport on the 30th December 1915 and his disembarked at Alexandria of the 14th January 1916. On the 18th September 1918 he embarked from the Suez and disembarked in Bombay, India on the 1st October 1918. While in India he was admitted to hospital in Fyzabad Military Hospital, India, with renal colic. He was there from the 10th February 1918 to 22nd December 1918, He was again admitted to hospital, this time at the British Stationary Hospital, Wellington on the 1st August 1919 still suffering from the same complaint. On the 19th September 1919 he was on a medical board at the hospital with a view to being invalided out of the army. The result was that he was fit for further service. His disability was renal Calculus which started in Fyzabab April 1919 He was invalided to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, Southampton, Hampshire and was admitted on the 1st November 1919 and he died in this hospital on the 25th February 1920 from Sarcoma (cancer) of the left kidney.
