(An extract from Operation Banner R of H)
Roy was a Lance Corporal in the UDR. He was shot in front of his family at the Park Shopping Centre on Donegal Road, Belfast. He was from Ballyduff Brae, Newtownabbey. It is believed an PIRA member had some time earlier spotted his personal protection weapon while he washed a car. The same PIRA man later recognised him at the Park Centre and alerted the PIRA who immediately set up an attack. The gun used was taken from Michael Stone also killed RUC man Samuel Todd.
