Extended Description
The PIRA launched a large truck bomb attack on a British Army (Ulster Defence Regiment) base at Glenane County Armagh the 31 May 1991.
Three UDR soldiers (Lance Corporal Robert Crozier and Privates Paul Blakely and Sydney Hamilton) were killed; ten soldiers and four civilians were wounded. The lorry packed with a 2,000lb bomb was rolled down a hill towards the army base. It was largest bomb ever the PIRA ever used. The blast left a deep crater and it could be heard over 30 miles away. Most of the UDR base was destroyed by the blast and the fire that followed. It was one of the largest bombs detonated during the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
